WELCOME!

my history

Hello! I am Mariana Acevedo, woman, wife and mother. I love learning and sharing my knowledge. I am passionate about knowing and working on the Body-Mind relationship, I am fascinated by dance and the human brain fills me with curiosity. I love nature and firmly believe in its healing power. I am dedicated to Somatic Education using the Feldenkrais Method and Dance Therapy.

My history with movement begins at a very young age when I did all kinds of sports, especially basketball. Later I started dancing and from then until today, dance has been a fundamental part of my life. Dance has accompanied and healed me throughout my life but it was not until a few years ago, when I formally began my Somatic Education and Dance Therapy training, that I relized it.

Movement is always present in my life and it reminds me of who I am and my real potential. Sometimes my thinking part can resist to move, but when I give into my body-mind connection everything gets clearer.

My experience

From a very young age I began teaching dance classes to girls and young women. I always loved teaching and sharing my knowledge, however, at that time in my life I felt that I preferred dancing to teaching dance. So I stopped and continued working in another field, but still dancing. After having my first daughter I returned to teaching dance and decided to take a leap of faith, I began my studies in somatic education of the Feldenkrais Method in San Diego, California, which took me 4 years.

Two years after starting I opened "Centro de Movimiento" a space for movement and mindfulness. We teach Yoga, dance, prenatal and of course Feldenkrais classes. At the same time my second child arrived and I moved to a new city, which led me to close and start from scratch. So many changes were complicated and it was very difficult for me to continue with the project as I had planned. In the meantime I continued studying and practicing the Method. Thanks to the support of my husband and family, I was able to successfully complete my course in 2020, and at the same time, the opportunity to teach Feldenkrais at a chronic pain clinic arose. Since then, I have strengthened my experience working with people who suffer from chronic pain, post-traumatic stress, and brain injuries.

In the process, I became certified as a Dance Therapist, which I successfully include in my treatments with patients. In addition, I had the opportunity to become certified as an expert in the understanding and science behind chronic pain. The biopsychosocial approach has led me to expand and combine my knowledge not only with movement, but also with food, sleep, and many other mental and emotional aspects that make up the being. Today, I continue to prepare, study, and find more and more information that helps me understand how mind, body, and soul are complementary and have the power of powerful and deep self-healing.

I hope you can find information here that will help you heal and grow, and that you can share it with anyone who could benefit from it.

"I am certified in Gestalt Creative Dance Therapy which gives me a powerful tool to put together enriching sessions where patients can gain greater self-knowledge and self-healing. I currently work with patients who suffer from chronic pain, post-traumatic stress and brain injuries."

"With the sessions we had, my body felt lighter, not so tense or rigid. The pain I had in the second toe of my right foot also went away and I have been a little more aware of the movements I make, from how I get up, whether slowly, quickly or abruptly. I have also fallen asleep more quickly,"

“After your session, the pain in my wrist that was running down to my back went away. You gave me some advice on how to stand and do some strength exercises and I applied that and it has helped me a lot with my posture and avoiding pain.”

”The feldenkrais sessions have helped me a lot when I have had neck and shoulder pain. I always start to feel better from the first session, and it gradually improves. During the session you start to feel very relaxed. I highly recommend them for any muscle pain or movement problem, and of course the more consistent you are, the more benefits you will get.”
